This is a group project I completed with my classmate. For this design we were tasked with creating a tiny home and a cafe for Cultivating Hope Farms in Ames, IA. For this project, I worked on the tiny home which was required to be able to fit a resident and a family member or caregiver. The tiny home had to be between 1,200-1,400 sqft.
This tiny home is designed to be suitable for a supported or family home. The home features enough circulation space for a wheelchair user to be able to successfully maneuver the space without complications. It also features an ADA bathroom with a roll-in shower. The home also has an outdoor patio area to further blend the home into the surroundings of the farm

Cultivating Hope Farms is a nonprofit based in Ames that focuses on 'care farming'. Care Farms provide supervised programs of farm related activities that include animal husbandry and cultivating plants. They use these programs to allow individuals to learn mastery of tasks, leisure, relaxation and social growth. Cultivating Hope Farms is an inclusive care farm. They welcome all individuals regardless of diagnosis but spoke primarily of their experience in teaching individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My classmate and I each wanted to pick a furniture piece that would be accommodating to ASD or other diagnoses. I chose to implement the Boden Donut Rocker by Pineapple Furniture
"The Rocker is designed to provide gentle, controllable vestibular stimulation, helping to comfort and calm those in crisis. The shape, size and softness of the product also offers tactile (touch) and proprioceptive (sense of body positioning) inputs which provides a supportive feeling of reassuring wrap-around contact."
Lighting was a large consideration in this home. The home features large windows that help to regulate the Circadian rhythm of the user. However, depending on the users need the windows may be too harsh so the homes do feature blinds that can diffuse, partially cover, or black out the natural light. The home also features a lot of ambient light options if the user has other sensitivities or preference in overhead lighting.
